Terms of Use
Updated 2026-10-28
These terms apply to your use of the Vision Lab website, Merchant Portal and app, provided by Vision Lab. Please read these terms and the Privacy Policy before use. Updated October 28, 2026.
01 · The service and its scope
Vision Lab provides vision-science experiments, models and interactive learning tools, alongside guided refraction checks and local record keeping on iPhone. Availability depends on the current release, device capabilities and published feature descriptions. The Vision Lab app is being prepared for release and is not yet publicly available on the App Store.
Merchants can invite users to take refraction tests with an invitation code. Before starting, you must validate the code, confirm the receiving merchant and agree to send this test’s result. Each code allows up to three completed, successfully submitted results. There is no expiry before the first start; the next two tests must start within 48 hours after the first starts. An authorized test may finish or be sent later. Interruptions and network retries do not count again. The merchant uses the latest submitted result. We suggest using the first test to become familiar with the flow; it still counts as one of the three.
By using the service, you acknowledge and accept the applicable terms. If you do not agree, stop using it. Users below their local age of adulthood should use the service with a guardian’s consent and guidance. The current refraction flow is unavailable below age 17.
02 · Refraction checks and scientific models
Models and experiments support exploration of visual processes; refraction checks provide measurement estimates for personal reference. Scientific models, numerical checks or engineering tests do not establish individual measurement accuracy, clinical validity or suitability for a prescription. App results are not a prescription issued by a licensed professional and do not replace a comprehensive professional eye examination.
Consult a qualified eye-care professional before making eyewear or health decisions. Seek prompt medical care for sudden vision loss, eye pain or other significant symptoms. Do not rely on the app to delay care.
03 · Devices, conditions and use
The current app requires an iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Camera-based measurements additionally require a front TrueDepth camera and supported ARKit face tracking. The app’s device and permission checks determine whether measurement is available.
Follow preparation, lighting, distance, positioning and individual-eye instructions, and enter information accurately. Device, environment and user differences can affect results. Do not invent values to bypass checks. Stop if you feel uncomfortable or cannot complete a step. The optional near-vision step appears only when the current flow’s conditions are met and you select it.
04 · Your records and content
You are responsible for information you enter, import and share, and must have the necessary rights or permission. Check manually entered prescriptions against their original source. Existing personal records are not automatically uploaded, and there is no record-cloud synchronization or server recovery. Only new test results you agree to send go to the corresponding inviting merchant. Deleting records, clearing app data or removing the app may cause loss of local data.
You are responsible for files you choose to save elsewhere or share. Experiment-file export is separate from personal refraction records and does not mean every personal record can be exported. The Privacy Policy explains information handling.
05 · License and intellectual property
Subject to these terms and applicable law, you may use the service for personal learning, vision-science exploration and uses expressly permitted by the service. Except where permitted by law or the relevant license, do not impersonate Vision Lab, remove attribution or rights notices, or redistribute service content as your own product.
Third-party software, scientific models, data, fonts and other materials remain subject to their respective licenses and attribution notices. Integrating them does not give Vision Lab exclusive ownership. These terms do not restrict rights granted by open-source licenses or research, fair use and interoperability allowed by law.
06 · Responsible use and external services
Do not use the service unlawfully, infringe privacy or intellectual-property rights, bypass security measures, disrupt operations or access another person’s data without authorization.
The website may link to the web laboratory, Apple or other services, whose availability and rules are managed by their respective providers. Maintenance, network problems, device limitations or updates may affect access. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.
07 · App Store license and statutory rights
An app obtained through the App Store is subject to Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement unless a valid custom license applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ . These website terms do not automatically replace that license.
Any limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law. These terms do not exclude or limit consumer rights, statutory guarantees or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Describing the service’s limits does not remove obligations we have under law.
08 · Changes and contact
We update this page when the service or terms change and provide notice of material changes where appropriate. Updated terms apply to use after they take effect and do not automatically change previously accrued rights.
